Yes, if you are renovating an existing building. The municipality issues a renovation permit for work that does not touch the structure or change the building's architectural look. Bigger jobs (extensions, structural changes) need a building permit instead.
Who applies: the owner or an engineering office acting for them. Everything is done online on Benayat, the building permits system.
What you enter: owner, heirs and tenant details, the land, what you are renovating and the electrical load.
Fees (municipality)
- Residential: 250 fils per square metre.
- Non-residential: 500 fils per square metre.
Timing
- First review by the municipality: 1 working day.
- If other government bodies have to be consulted: 3 working days for each one.
- You pay on Benayat, the permit is issued online and you print it. It is valid for one year.
The catch: if the work turns out to affect walls, columns or the facade, a renovation permit is not enough. Check the scope with your engineer first so you do not have to start again.
Steps
- Confirm the work does not affect the structure or facade.
- Apply on Benayat with owner, land, renovation and electrical load details.
- Wait for the municipality review (1 working day, plus 3 per consulted entity).
- Pay on Benayat and print the permit (valid one year).
