An eKey is the login you use for most government eServices on bahrain.bh. You need a Bahraini personal (CPR) number first; GCC citizens without one must have their GCC card activated, and the online account is for people aged 15 or older. There is no fee listed for setting one up.
There are three ways in:
- eKey 2.0 app: the newer version, for citizens and residents. Your identity is checked inside the app with biometric technology, so you do not need to visit an office.
- Standard eKey: made online with your personal number and a password, and ready straight away. It opens every eService that does not need a fingerprint check.
- Advanced eKey: needed for the more sensitive eServices. You go once to an eService centre or an eKiosk to register your ID card and fingerprint; a Standard eKey can be upgraded this way at any time.
Some eServices accept only an Advanced eKey or eKey 2.0, so if a service refuses your Standard eKey, that is usually why.
For help, the Information & eGovernment Authority lists 17878000 on its eKey service page.
Steps
- Make sure you have a Bahraini personal (CPR) number (GCC citizens: an activated GCC card).
- Download eKey 2.0 from the eGovernment Apps Store at bahrain.bh/apps, or create a Standard eKey on bahrain.bh.
- For a Standard eKey, fill in your details and confirm the code sent to your mobile.
- If a service needs the Advanced level, visit an eService centre or eKiosk once to register your ID card and fingerprint.
