Anyone practising a health profession in Bahrain needs a licence from the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA). You apply online through NHRA's Mehan system, usually with your employer's support.
What you upload
- The Mehan application form and your ID card copy.
- A letter from the hospital, clinic or pharmacy hiring you.
- A primary source verification report covering your qualifications, experience, licence and good conduct.
- Attested copies of your qualifications, CV and a photo.
- A health and fitness report.
- Experience letters and your licence from your last job, if you have them.
- A good conduct certificate from the country where you last practised.
Fees (as listed on the National Portal)
- Application: 20 BD
- Doctor, consultant: 100 BD; specialist: 80 BD; general practitioner: 80 BD
- Visiting consultant: 100 BD per visit
- Allied health professions (nursing and other allied roles): 50 BD
- Pharmacist 60 BD; pharmacy technician 50 BD; medicine promoter 80 BD
Timing: 5 working days once the file is complete. NHRA reviews the papers, decides your professional grade, then you pay and the licence is issued.
The catch: the verification report and the good conduct certificate from abroad take the longest. Start them before you resign from your current job.
Steps
- Create your account on NHRA's Mehan system.
- Upload the form, employer letter, verification report, qualifications and other documents.
- NHRA reviews the file and decides your professional grade.
