How do I renew my car registration in Bahrain, and how much is it?

Car registration is renewed every year with the General Directorate of Traffic, online or at an iGA kiosk, and the renewal is immediate.

Before you renew: your third-party (civil liability) insurance must cover the whole new registration period, the car must pass technical inspection if it is due one, and any traffic fines have to be paid during the renewal.

Yearly fee by empty weight:

Inspection, when needed, is 5 BHD for an internal inspection or 15 BHD for an external one.

Renew on time: a late fee of 500 fils a day starts the day after expiry, up to 20 BHD a year.

Bahraini citizens over 60 can get 50% off the renewal fee for one car through the "Vehicle Registration Renewal Fee Discount" eService.

Steps

  1. Renew or extend your car insurance to cover the new registration year.
  2. Get the technical inspection done if your car needs one.
  3. Open the eTraffic or MyGov app, bahrain.bh, or an iGA kiosk, and choose Vehicle Registration Renewal.
  4. Enter the car number, pay any fines and the fee, and the registration renews at once.
