How many days of paid annual leave do private sector workers get in Bahrain?

Under the private sector Labour Law (Law No. 36 of 2012), once you have worked one full year for your employer you are entitled to at least 30 days of paid annual leave, building up at 2.5 days per month. If you have worked less than a year, you get leave in proportion to the time worked.

Who decides the dates: your employer sets when you take leave, based on the needs of the work. But every year you must be given at least 15 days, of which at least 6 days in a row.

Unused leave: you cannot give up your right to leave. The employer must settle your leave balance at least every two years, and if your job ends with days left, you are paid for them.

The catch: if your employer schedules your leave and you refuse it in writing, you lose the right to be paid for those days.

Other paid leave in the law: up to 6 days a year of emergency (casual) leave, at most 2 days at a time, taken from your annual leave; 3 paid days for your own marriage (once) or the death of a spouse or close relative; and 1 paid day when your child is born.
