Taxi fares are set by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT). Its fare table was last updated in September 2026.
Starting fare
- Sunday to Thursday, 6 am to 10 pm: BD 1.000
- Sunday to Thursday, 10 pm to 6 am: BD 1.250
- Friday, Saturday and holidays: BD 1.250 all day
After the first kilometre
- 200 fils per km for the first half of the trip and 250 fils per km for the second half.
- 50 fils a minute while the car is stopped.
- BD 2.000 extra on trips over 25 km.
Extra charges
- From the airport: BD 2.000 added. From a hotel: BD 1.000 added.
- BD 1.000 extra on official (Hijri) public holidays.
- BD 0.500 for each passenger over 5.
- The passenger pays the King Fahd Causeway toll (BD 3.500) and any entry fees at historic sites.
The catch: make sure the meter is on when you set off. The airport and hotel extras are on top of the meter, and a long trip costs more per km in its second half.
