Under Bahrain's law on birth and death registration (Law No. 7 of 2019), a death inside Bahrain must be reported within 72 hours. For a Bahraini who dies abroad, the deadline is 60 days.
If you miss the deadline: the person responsible for reporting must ask the head of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) for permission within 30 days after the deadline ends, explaining the reason and showing that the fee has been paid. iGA must decide within 15 days. If it says nothing for 30 days, that counts as a refusal.
After a refusal, the death cannot be recorded until a court issues a final ruling, so a late report can turn into a court case. Report on time.
Documents iGA lists for a death certificate after the legal period: the civil court ruling with the deceased's details, the electronic execution letter from the Court of Execution, a medical report on the cause of death if there is one, the deceased's ID, the ID of the person reporting, and the death notification form. For a death abroad, add the foreign death certificate authenticated by the Bahraini embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
