My insurance company rejected or is delaying my claim. How do I complain in Bahrain?

Insurance companies in Bahrain are supervised by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), which has a fixed complaints route. You must go to the insurer first; the CBB normally steps in only after that.

1. Complain to the insurer in writing
Email or write to the company's complaints team (the address is on its own website), ask for its complaint form, fill it in and send it back.

2. Wait for the written reply
Under the CBB procedure the insurer should acknowledge your complaint the same day for non-life claims (car, health, home, travel) or within 5 business days for life claims. It should then reply in writing within 1 week for non-life claims and 2 weeks for life claims.

3. Escalate to the CBB if you are not satisfied
Send the completed form together with the insurer's written reply through the CBB website (consumer protection), through the national Tawasul app, or by hand at the CBB building.

CBB Consumer Protection Office: 17547789, complaint@cbb.gov.bh. There is no fee to complain.

The catch: the CBB checks whether the company broke its rules or your policy terms. It will not usually help if the policy simply did not cover what happened, so read your exclusions first and keep every email and letter.

Steps

  1. Email or write to the insurer's complaints team and ask for its complaint form.
  2. Fill in the form and send it back.
  3. Wait for the written reply (1 week non-life, 2 weeks life).
  4. If unhappy, send the form and the reply to the CBB online, via Tawasul or by hand.
