Bahrain Customs lets travellers bring in personal effects and gifts without paying duty, as long as they are for personal use and not for sale.
Duty-free allowances
- Personal effects and gifts worth up to BD 300.
- 400 cigarettes (regular or heated), or 250 g of tobacco, or 400 nicotine pouches.
- 10 electronic cigarettes.
- 60 ml of e-hookah liquid.
- 50 cigars.
- 3 litres of alcoholic drinks, and 12 cans of beer.
Conditions
- Tobacco and alcohol are allowed only for travellers aged 18 or over.
- Goods must be personal, not commercial.
- The allowance is not for frequent travellers who bring goods in regularly.
Money
There is no limit on bringing local or foreign currency into Bahrain, but customs may ask you to show where the money came from.
Taking goods out again
- Dutiable goods you plan to take back out can come in under temporary import for six months, which can be extended. A refundable deposit may be needed.
- If you don't want to use dutiable goods in Bahrain, customs can hold them for up to three months until you leave.
