Public buses in Manama have operated since the 1950s, providing basic and affordable transport. In 2015, the Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC) modernized the system, expanding the fleet from 35 to over 140 air-conditioned buses. Manama Bus Terminal became the main transport hub, connecting the capital with Muharraq, Isa Town, Riffa, and other areas through improved services and smartcard ticketing.
