Qal'at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Fort)

Forts · Karbabad, Bahrain

A UNESCO World Heritage fort on Bahrain's north coast, built on 4,000 years of layered civilizations.

Bahrain's only UNESCO fort site — 4,000 years of history stacked in one place.

Qal'at al-Bahrain sits atop the ancient capital of the Dilmun civilization, with excavated layers spanning Dilmun, Assyrian, Greek, Portuguese, and Islamic periods. The Portuguese-era fort walls dominate the skyline, and an on-site museum displays artifacts recovered from the dig. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
