Old towns & landmarks · Manama, Bahrain
The historic gateway building to Manama Souq, built in 1949 and still the city's central landmark.
The single most recognizable building in Manama and the entrance to the old souq.
Bab Al Bahrain ("Gateway of Bahrain") was built in 1949 as the formal entrance to Manama's old souq and Customs House, designed by British architect Charles Belgrave. It remains Manama's most recognizable landmark and the natural starting point for exploring the souq behind it.
